Andrés is a Civil Engineer with a mention in Hydraulics-Sanitary-Environmental and has more than 20 years of experience leading multidisciplinary projects related to environmental issues for mining. Some of the areas where he has successfully developed are closure plans, closure costs, environmental impact statements, sectorial permits, socio-environmental due diligence, geotechnical and geochemical studies, cover design, hydraulic modeling, and circular economy studies.
Andrés has held various positions as project manager, environmental specialist, area manager and environmental consultant in the main engineering companies in Chile; he has also taught at different universities and has several publications on sustainability issues. His experience has allowed him to make important contributions to the Chilean mining industry, having actively participated in the implementation phase of the Mine Closure Law in Chile and in the development of circular economy studies for mining companies.
Among some of the most emblematic mining projects in which Andrés has participated are; the update of the Closure Plan for Collahuasi and Maricunga (Kinross Gold), the Closure Engineering for Minera Alumbrera in Argentina (Glencore), the Closure Cost Guide for SERNAGEOMIN (The National Geology and Mining Service is a Chilean government agency) and the Environmental Management and Compliance Support Framework Contract for the Vice-Presidency of Projects of Codelco; in addition to having led the Environmental area in the Initial/Readiness Phase of the SGO Project (BHP).
Currently, as Environmental Planning & Ecology Manager based in the Santiago office, Andrés has an outstanding technical and commercial strength, and his work has a proactive and multidisciplinary approach, focused on achieving the highest quality results.
Andrés attended the School of Engineering at the University of Chile and has postgraduate studies in Environmental Sciences at the University of Granada, Spain.
