Dave is a Structural Engineer with 35 years' experience in offshore operations and engineering design studies for ice-covered regions. Dave was part of the design team for an exploratory drilling system for the Beaufort Sea and assisted in icebreaker trials, rig performance monitoring and design studies for offshore oil production structures. Dave has also provided on-board ice advisory services for drilling platforms in the Beaufort and North Caspian Seas and for seismic operations in the Beaufort Sea and north-west Greenland. In this role his major duties offshore included the development and application of ice alert procedures, monitoring and forecasting of sea ice and iceberg conditions, and directing ice management procedures to protect the rig and to plan for evacuation routes through ice.

Since 2015, Dave has served as Ausenco’s QA/QC engineer on the annual winter ice road construction from the north coast of Alaska to offshore oil production islands. He has also consulted to the National Research Council of Canada and private companies involved in northern development, including pre-planning and field studies for the construction, from the ice, of a marine dock at a northern Baffin Island inlet.
