Rafael is Earth and Environment Director - Peru with more than 17 years of experience in civil engineering developing large-scale projects for the mining, infrastructure, and petroleum industries. His experience includes structural & infrastructure engineering, cost engineering, risk assessment, project management, business management & strategy and leadership.
Based in Peru, his key responsibilities include leading and supervising multidisciplinary teams and overseeing business results of our Earth & Environment operation in Peru, including environmental, geotechnical & tailings, water resources and construction support consulting services. His work experience includes some of the most pertinent mining projects in Peru, such as San Rafael, Cerro Corona, Zafranal, Magistral, and Antapaccay, amongst others.
One of the recent key project’s Rafael worked on is the Zafranal copper project, located in the Arequipa region in Peru. Between 2018 & 2023, Rafael led part of the teams involved in the development of the project’s Feasibility Study, including process & ancillary infrastructure & the tailings management facility. Later, Rafael led the teams involved in charge of developing the project’s environmental impact assessment study, integrating in this process, a wide range of Ausenco’s multidisciplinary capabilities.

Rafael has a degree in civil engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
