Dr Stephen La Brooy’s career spans over 30 years and is a globally recognised expert in hydrometallurgy, refractory gold processing and water treatment.
His experience includes Study Management and Process Consulting on refractory gold processing including first commercialisation of gold extraction via thiosulfate with recovery by Resin-in-Leach and use of reverse osmosis (RO) within the flowsheet. He has provided Pressure Oxidation studies on the Sepon Primary Gold, Runruno and Midas Gold, Golden Meadows, Macras Flat and Gatsuurt projects.
Stephen has been involved in tungsten recovery studies on Nui Phao, Hemerdon, O’Callaghans and Macraes Flat and on an off-project design review on the Nui Phao polymetallic project to produce copper, tungsten and fluorite concentrates as well as bismuth metal.
Stephen has authored or co-authored more than 50 technical papers during his career and is a regular speaker at key technical conferences.
Prior to joining Ausenco he worked as Metallurgical Development Manager for Macraes Mining identifying and installing pressure oxidation at the Macraes Flat gold project, and has worked as a research scientist for the Australian Government to evaluate alternative lixiviants for gold and silver extraction.
