A team of volunteers from Ausenco’s office in Vancouver, Canada, helped provide safe and affordable housing for low-income families by participating in a Habitat for Humanity Build Day on 26 April. The community giving initiative was made possible by a $5,000 donation made by the Ausenco Foundation.
Habitat For Humanity makes housing accessible to low-income families by building homes using volunteer labour and donated materials. Eligible families are required to donate 500 volunteer hours and repay a no-interest, no down-payment mortgage with payments that are less than 30% of gross household income.
Ausenco’s build took place at a new townhouse development in Burnaby and employees helped with painting sidings, landscaping, scraping floors after drywall mudding, and sorting and separating site waste for recycling. “The ability of Habitat to make a difference in people’s lives depends directly on the generosity of supporters like Ausenco,” said Stephani Smaridis, Director, Fund Development for Habitat for Humanity. “Your donation has a direct impact on our ability to end the cycle of poverty and is a significant contributor to the well-being of your community. We could not succeed without you.”
Employees who participated said they enjoyed the opportunity to work together while contributing to the community in which we live and work.
