Arequipa, September 29, 2023 - Ausenco, a global company with more than 20 years of operations in Peru and a great track record developing and delivering important mining projects for the country, attended, and proudly participated in the 36th edition of the PERUMIN Mining Convention in Arequipa from September 25 to 29 to continue driving innovation and opportunities in the mining sector.
Ausenco experts had an outstanding participation in the Technology, Innovation and Sustainability (TIS) Forum, where they shared new perspectives and best practices. Giselle Vera, Mine Closure Leader, presented on "Sustainable assessment of closure alternatives for concentrator plants in Peru", Gabriel Castillo, ESG and Climate Change Director, presented on "Climate risk and ecosystem-based adaptation strategies: Opportunities for the mining industry", and Juan José Becker, Process Leader from Chile, shared an innovative approach to "Using dynamic simulation tools for process optimization."
For the first time, Canada, a partner country of the PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention, led the forum “Canadian Leadership in Sustainable and Climate Smart Mining," and shared key actions from the Canadian government and the institution Natural Resources Canada to support the rapid economic growth of the mining sector, while ensure the sustainability development of local communities and optimizing the socio-environmental impact. A panel of experts contributed to the round table –Decarbonization, improved water management and adaptation to climate change – including Gabriel Castillo, ESG and Climate Change Director.
Ausenco leaders also participated in the II Encuentro Nacional de Asociadas Estudiantiles (ENAE), organized by WiM Peru (Women in Mining). Alexandra Almenara, Vice President of Sustainability for Latam and the US, and Loreto Osorio, Director of Metals and Minerals Chile, shared their professional experiences and connected with the next generation of women in mining to promote and inspire more women in the sector.
The "Australia Night" cocktail reception, hosted by Ausenco and organized by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), brought together top executives from the global mining sector and Ausenco leaders at the Parador Molino Blanco mansion to advance the conversation around the important role and responsibility of the mining industry.
