This Centre provides capacity for processing up to 50,000 t/y of mixed recyclable (Blue Box) materials (collected in two streams – fibres and containers) from residential curbside pick-up and commercial generators.
Ausenco, in partnership with Integrated Municipal Services, Timbro Design Build and California based CP Manufacturing, Inc. (Process Equipment Supplier), entered into a design/build contract with The Regional Municipality of Niagara to create the facility.
The project required major structural renovations to facilitate ease of truck and loader movements (removal of three main columns) and handling of materials (new task lighting, creation of a new tipping floor utilising anvil top high strength slab topping and foundation underpinning for the new conveyor/process pits).
Given the constant volume of truck traffic, a new ventilation system (including carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide sensors) was interlocked with the new building ventilation system.
Ausenco also acted as Collaboration Engineers for CP Manufacturing, ensuring their process equipment would comply with Ontario regulations and building code requirements.
This project was awarded Project of the Year Structural Category by the Ontario Public Works Association for 2005 Awards Program.
