Ausenco in partnership with Burns and Roe Enterprises provided a majority of engineering design and construction management services for Canada’s largest combined cycle, natural gas-fired power plant facility, located in the Township of St Clair, Ontario, Canada.
Fueled by natural gas, the power generating block consists of three Siemens Westinghouse 501 F combustion gas turbine generators, three Deltak heat recovery steam generators, a single 517mw Toshiba steam turbine generator, and a wet mechanical draft cooling tower.
The facility, with a nameplate capacity of 1,005 mw, generates power for transmission to the Ontario power grid via two separate 230 kilovolt transmission circuits interconnecting approximately 35 km north of the plant site.
Energy and capacity from the Greenfield Energy Centre is delivered to the Independent Electricity System Operator of Ontario. This new energy centre supports the provincial government’s effort to replace older coal-fired plants with clean efficient gas-fired generation, minimising greenhouse gases and other emissions.
