Timeframe

Ausenco completed a number of projects on the Kinsevere Copper Plant including a $400 EPC contract completed in 2011.

The existing Kinsevere operation was an open pit mining operation and HMS processing plant with an electricarc furnace located 30 km north west of Lubumbashi, provincial capital of Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The stage II expansion planned a 60,000 t/y capacity SX-EW plant at Kinsevere, to exploit a 34% increase in Measured and Indicated Resources and a subsequent 32% increase in Proven and Probable Mineral Reserves.

Ausenco was initially engaged to design and deliver the 60 000 t/y solvent-extraction electrowinning plant on an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) basis. The project was suspended in December 2008 pending greater stability in world financial markets.

Ausenco was re-engaged in June 2009 for design completion, and again in January 2010 to complete the construction project on an EPC basis.

The project is now owned by MMG Limited.
