This is the site of the most famous breakwater in Brazil, constructed in the late 60s and originally designed by R.Y. Hudson (USACE).
Ausenco was retained to prepare the design of the rehabilitation works for the breakwater armour layer, as part of a lifetime maintenance of the rubblemound structure in the Port of Tubarão.
Design included the use of aerophotography datasets to estimate volume changes, numerical modelling of wave transformation during major storms, risk analyses for different levels of rehabilitation works, engineering plans and specifications for construction, assistance during the tender process and construction observation reviews.
Construction was carried out in 2007-2008.
