For over two decades, Ausenco has proudly partnered with Rockwool Inc. (Rockwool), supporting expansion initiatives at its Milton, Ontario Insulation Production Plant. The latest milestone in this long-standing collaboration is a significant 8,000 m² expansion, featuring a two-storey warehouse and process building designed to meet growing demand in the North American market.

This new facility will produce innovative and sustainable stone wool growing media solutions, serving professional horticultural and agricultural industries. With a capital expenditure exceeding $40 million (excluding process equipment), the project reflects Rockwool’s commitment to global sustainability and technological advancement.

Ausenco has been involved since the project’s inception in 2019, working closely with Rockwool to define the site footprint, optimize logistics, and plan for warehousing and production needs. The final design includes:

  • Ground-floor warehouse with a full second level housing multiple new future process production lines, integrated with production lifts and freight elevator.
  • Dedicated utility and office building for maintenance operations and essential plant services, including new transformers, main switchgear, and an air compressor system.
  • Comprehensive site upgrades involving stormwater management systems, fire main loops, expanded parking, site grading, landscaping, and enhanced security and lighting.

Ausenco led the detailed design phase from Burlington, delivering complete architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services. We also played key roles in the early procurement of all structural steel and in securing timely approvals from local government agencies and utility providers, facilitating the site plan agreement and building permit process.

Completed on budget in the summer of 2024, this project marks another successful chapter in our valued partnership with Rockwool. It reflects our shared commitment to sustainable innovation.
