Since joining Ausenco in 2006, Shaun’s experience has included a wide range of roles in design projects for greenfield and brownfield plants, as well as construction and commissioning support roles. His design work has focused on bulk materials handling design, dust control, and simulations/numerical analysis.
Shaun’s design specialty includes:
- Materials handling circuit layout and optimisation
- Conveyor design, including dynamic analysis, tripper design, and shuttling conveyors
- Belt and Apron feeder optimisation
- Transfer chute design, including diverters and shuttling chutes
- Analysis of stockpile feed and reclaim performance, segregation management and live volume optimisation
- Analysis of dust control issues for new and existing plants, and specification of efficient dust control strategies
- Guarding audits and design
- Third party reviews
- Materials handling circuit debottlenecking
Shaun’s passion for numerical simulation and applying analysis techniques to new problems includes:
- Advanced Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) simulations
- Bespoke cellular automata algorithm to simulate leach vat filling performance
- Novel simulation of ore blending withing process circuits, to analyse the effect of alternative ore feed types.
Key projects Shaun has worked on include:
- Hidden Valley (gold/silver, Papua New Guinea)
- Ernest Henry (magnetite, Australia)
- Cadia East (copper/gold, Australia)
- Constancia (copper/molybdenum, Peru)
- Cadia Con1-Con2 upgrade (copper/gold, Australia)
