Álvaro is a civil engineer with more than 24 years of experience leading engineering projects across the mining, energy, and natural resources sectors across Chile and South America. His expertise encompasses the technical development of structural, civil, piping and pipeline systems, as well as the engineering management and project delivery for large-scale, operationally critical initiatives.
Throughout his career, he has led multidisciplinary teams across the full project lifecycle, including conceptual engineering, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, FEL stages, basic and detailed engineering, construction and commissioning. His experience includes concentrate, tailings, desalinated water, seawater, process solutions and natural gas transportation projects, along with supporting infrastructure such as pumping stations, industrial facilities and civil works.
Álvaro is recognised for his people-centered leadership, technical expertise and collaborative approach, fostering innovative, high-performing work environments that support professional development and deliver value to clients. He has held leadership roles with international engineering firms, including Bonatti, Brass, and PSI Chile, serving as Engineering Manager, Project Manager, and Discipline Lead for some of the region’s leading mining companies.
In recent years, he has led the engineering of major water supply projects for the mining industry, including the complementary water source project for Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi and the seawater pumping system for Antofagasta Minerals’ Nueva Centinela Project.
Álvaro holds a civil engineering degree from the University of Chile, specialising in structures and construction, and has complemented his academic background with advanced studies in project management and engineering leadership.
