The Aktogay deposit will support a large open-pit mine and concentrator project located in the Ayoguz region in the east of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The deposit has measured and indicated sulphide mineral resources of approximately 1,597 million tonnes and oxide mineral resources of 121 million tonnes, with forecast annual production of around 100,000 tonnes of copper cathode equivalent by 2019 and a mine life of 50 years.
This strategically important deposit is poised to become a major copper operation within Central Asia, serving a large market with high consumer demand.
Ausenco provided engineering and procurement services for the sulphide concentrator to produce copper and molybdenum concentrates.
Achievements
- One of the largest concentrators Ausenco has designed. The design was leveraged off the concentrator design Ausenco developed for the Bozshakol Project, saving the client considerable man-hours and costs.
- Concentrators will be designed to operate in an environment with an extreme temperature range down to -40°C.
- Design documentation for construction of the project supplied in English and Russian.
