Stephen is a highly sought-after expert in novel process development and plant design, especially for refractory gold recovery with specialist knowledge in pressure oxidation (POX), BIOX, and Albion Process pre-treatment options. His expertise includes hydrometallurgy, membrane processing for water treatment and application of ion exchange resins for purification and recovery. He has worked on precious metals, lithium, copper, manganese, vanadium, tungsten, uranium and rare earths.

Since joining Ausenco his pressure oxidation expertise has been used on the Sepon Primary Gold, Runruno, Golden Meadows, Gatsuurt, Macrae’s expansion, Sepon autoclave repurposing, Wiluna Mining and Dumont Nickel, Jaguar, Martabe and Stibnite studies. He has also been involved in refractory and complex gold projects and studies at Barrick Goldstrike, Santa Luz, Cowal and Martabe.

Stephen has authored or co-authored more than 50 technical papers during his career and is a regular speaker at key technical conferences.

Prior to joining Ausenco he worked as Metallurgical Development Manager for Macraes Mining identifying and installing pressure oxidation at the Macraes Flat gold project and has worked as a research scientist for the Australian Government to evaluate alternative lixiviants for gold and silver extraction.
