On 30 November, Ausenco Project Manager Nick Bennett presented the company’s first school-leavers scholarship in Western Australia to Shenton College student Ethan Schaap.

Ausenco’s President for APAC / Africa Niresh Deonarain said the company expanded its school-leavers scholarship to Perth to attract top young talent in this highly-competitive market.

“With Ausenco’s enduring success in this region, we want to continue growing our team with local talent through this scholarship program,” Mr Deonarain said.

The Ausenco school-leavers scholarship program provides the recipients with financial support during their engineering undergraduate course, as well as opportunities for work experience and mentoring at the company.

Mr Deonarain said the program has proved highly successful in Queensland – both for the recipients and the company.

“We carefully select our partner schools like Shenton College, and as a result, very few scholarship recipients leave the program, and many are involved in inspiring tomorrow’s engineers.

“We congratulate Ethan Schaap on becoming our first West Australian school leavers scholarship recipient, and we look forward to supporting Ethan and other aspiring young engineers from Shenton College in future,” Mr Deonarain said.

Shenton College Principal Michael Morgan said as a leading public school the College believes that building real and ongoing relationships with industry is vitally important.

“The Ausenco school-leavers scholarship is a tremendous example of what can be achieved.

“Ethan Schaap is an outstanding young man, and thanks to this scholarship, he will be supported and guided into a career in one of our most valued industries.

“Scholarships like this have an impact on the awarded student and the wider student community – it reminds them of the importance of the resources sector and gives them something to aspire to.

“Shenton College is very proud to be identified by Ausenco as their first partner school in WA and looks forward to building this relationship in the years ahead,” Mr Morgan said.
