Toby is a versatile ecologist and experienced environmental consultant specialising in coastal and avian ecology, wildlife impact assessments, post-construction monitoring and ecological study design. He has more than a decade of experience supporting clients across the ports and infrastructure, renewable energy, and government sectors, contributing to baseline assessments, mitigation planning, federal panel reviews, cumulative effects assessments, and post-construction project effects evaluations.
Toby collaborates with clients to deepen ecological understanding and advance sustainable development. With a strong foundation in environmental science, communication skills, and expertise in data analysis and technical writing, he effectively leads field programs of all sizes and translates findings into actionable ecological insights.
He has experience in traditional and innovative wildlife monitoring, inventory and ecotoxicology techniques. Toby has worked across diverse coastal and terrestrial ecosystems in British Columbia and throughout the Pacific Northwest, with additional experience spanning from California to Alaska and the northern Canadian Territories. His recent work includes censuses, conservation science, and impact assessments for species at risk, such as owls and waterbirds.
Toby currently leads Ausenco’s terrestrial ecology practice in North America based out of Vancouver Washington and Ausenco’s office in Burnaby British Columbia. He holds a Master of Science in biological sciences from Simon Fraser University in Canada and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental science, and Spanish language and culture in ecology from Pitzer College in the United States. He is also an active member of the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and the British Columbia College of Applied Biology.
