We caught up with Anuja, a mechanical engineering graduate who is currently in her second year of the Ausenco new professionals program (NPP) to learn about her experience so far, some key highlights and advice she has for future graduates.

Tell us a bit about your role at Ausenco.

I’m a Graduate Mechanical Engineer based out of Asuenco’s head office in Brisbane. My day-to-day role involves providing solutions for various mining equipment and technologies. There is always a healthy challenge that further develops my skillset and expands my network within the organisation. The best aspect of my role is problem solving, as I love to work with my colleagues to find the best solutions for our clients.

How are you finding the NPP?

I’m really enjoying the NPP! The Program has allowed me to interface with different areas of the business, such as the Process and Civil teams, where I’ve learnt new aspects of engineering and have met a wide range of people including senior management.

What are some of your key highlights so far?

I’m quite a social person and enjoy attending industry events and conferences when I get the opportunity. One of the key highlights over the last couple of years was attending the Young Mining Professionals Gala, where I connected with fellow young professionals in the industry. Keeping in line with the event theme, I also attended various AusIMM events, most recently the International Women’s Day Luncheon in Brisbane. I also attend Ausenco’s monthly social events at work with my colleagues.

What are your next steps for your career?

I would like to work on different projects, expand my network more and look forward to visiting site when the opportunity arises.

What advice would you give to prospective students looking to apply for a graduate position?

I would say that it's okay if you don't know what you want to do after university. That's what graduate programs are for! There is a lot of pressure placed on getting the best GPA, however, that isn’t as important once you graduate. Enjoy your university life to the best while keeping in mind to learn.
