Interdisciplinary collaboration is a strategic advantage; it enables us to draw on diverse ideas and innovations that we can apply to projects to continually find better ways of doing things.

Alvaro is a civil engineer and geographer from the University of Santiago, with more than 25 years of experience in water resource management. He began his career at the General Water Authority under Chile’s Ministry of Public Works, where he gained experience in integrated basin modelling and issues related to Chile’s water code.

In 2020, he joined Ausenco as Water Resources Manager. Since then, he has led the growth of his team, expanding both in terms of personnel and technical capabilities, including specialised areas in hydrology and hydrogeology. He is also a professor at the University of Santiago, where he teaches hydrology and hydrogeological numerical modelling.

Álvaro is known for his ability to unify teams and foster collaboration toward shared goals. His technical strengths include managing numerical models for groundwater flow and transport modelling, hydrogeological data analysis and the development of conceptual models. He also has experience in multisectoral projects, environmental assessment systems and water resource permitting, consistently applying innovative approaches.

Today, he divides his time between Ausenco and his academic role, contributing advanced knowledge in surface runoff characterisation, precipitation and recharge analysis, basin-level water balances, mining processes, and hydraulic design for environmental water resource management.
