Aleksandar has over 35 years of experience in geotechnical and civil engineering design, analysis and site investigations for mining, infrastructure, and energy projects across Canada and internationally. He specialises in geotechnical numerical modelling and analysis, site appraisal and characterisation, interpretation of geotechnical conditions, and both physical and centrifuge geotechnical modelling.
His expertise includes program scheduling and optimisation of site investigations, soil-structure interaction analysis, static and dynamic foundation design, computational modelling of geotechnical processes, limit state design, cyclic soil behaviour modelling, seismic geotechnical engineering, site response and liquefaction analysis and dynamic soil-structure interaction.
Aleksandar has led diverse geotechnical projects, including both shallow and deep foundation engineering, pile load testing, pile driveability studies, slope stability analysis and retaining structure design. He also has extensive experience in earthworks, ground improvement, marine nearshore and offshore geotechnics, as well as soft ground tunnels and pipelines.
Recently, he provided a high-level geotechnical service on several complex projects within the Abitibi Clay Belt of Canada (Dumont, Crawford), northwestern Ontario (Goliath), Nova Scotia, (Fifteen Mile Stream), Ecuador (Cangrejos), and subpolar regions of Canada (CRI, Indin Lake, Courageous Lake). Among these projects he designed tailings and waste rock facilities, both conventional and filtered tailings, on soft and very soft subgrades. Aleksandar also contributed to the development and design of innovative solutions for the quay wall for the new Port of Steensby in Baffinland.
Aleksandar holds engineering licences in Ontario, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and Serbia. He is highly skilled in a wide range of engineering software, including Plaxis 2D/3D, FLAC 2D/3D, Abaqus, RS2, RS3, the Geostudio suite, Rocscience Rock Mechanics Suite, Ensoft pile software, SAP2000, and Repute. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in civil engineering from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, Serbia.
