I believe that good science drives good business and regulatory decisions, balancing resource development with the fundamental principles of environmental protection and conservation.

Collen has more than 20 years of experience providing environmental consulting services, supporting both industry developers and Indigenous governmental organisations. His technical expertise spans soil, surficial geology, water science, land reclamation, wetlands and terrestrial ecology. On projects, he provides guidance on environmental regulatory processes and permitting, drawing on his deep knowledge of soil and water systems.

Recently, Collen led the development of the soil and terrain existing conditions report and the comprehensive suite of long-term monitoring plans for the Galore Creek Gold Mine Project in northwestern British Columbia (BC), Canada. He also led the fish and fish habitat chapter in the environmental assessment for the Fraser River Tunnel Replacement Project in Delta, BC. Currently, he is the project manager and assessment lead for an underground metals mining project in northwest BC.

Collen actively shares his applied reclamation research and forward-looking perspectives on reclamation and regulatory matters at conferences, workshops and seminars for both public and private audiences. He also served four years on the board of directors of the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists. Collen holds a bachelor’s degree in science combined from the University of Guelph, in Ontario, and the University of British Columbia.
